Château de Gruyères (sadly it is not a castle of cheese...)

Sorry we haven't posted in a while.  It's been a busy term.  Here it is though; another post from our intrepid adventurer Alex!

This post is a few days late, my apologies. Geneva was so busy that I didn't really have the time to write. My last day in Neuchâtel couldn't have been spent in better company. The day started off with the regrettable experience of packing (something I will just have to get used to). From there it got notably better. Emanuel was able to take the day off so myself, he and his wife set off to do a bit of exploring.

After a few hours in the train we climbed the hills and arrived at the Château de Gruyères. We able to visit the gardens first and to climb the walls and battlements. The view was beautiful and it was nice to see some real mountains in Europe. It was almost enough to make me want to call Switzerland home.

I consider myself lucky to have had such excellent hosts. Both Emanuel and his wife, Noémie, were incredible. It was great to get to spend some time with an old friend and to meet someone who is so important to him. We took advantage of the view to grab some group pictures. Here are a few.

After some more exploring and an historical video about the chateau we headed off in search of food. We hunted around and finally settled on a cozy place with a nice terrance looking out on the mountains. Noémie went with a bread and cheese dish. Here is a recipe for your own Croûtes au Fromage (I would seriously recommend this one as it is simple and delicious).Manu (Emanuel) and I settled on the Raclette.

This picture doesn't really showcase the food but after having eating most of my favorite meals together we decided to end with a Raclette

Hopefully these will give you a better idea of what Raclette is really like.

Sadly after lunch we took the train home and then it was time to say goodbye. I will certainly miss them. I do however have many great memories with them and look forward to having the chance to make some more in the future.
