Vive la cassette!

MonsterK7 is an French indie label that is determined to bring back the cassette tape, which according to their manifesto (yes they really have a manifesto, check it out on their website) was "sacrificed on the altar of modernity". To do this, they publish all their artist's releases on cassette tape. In a constantly more digital world and with the question of digital rights management being constantly debated, I thought this was an interesting nod to a simpler time.

Ça, c'est la musique!

Ok, so most of our posts lately have been pretty serious. So today we thought we would post something a little more lighthearted. This guy calls himself "Maestro", and he's French of course! Though I couldn't tell for sure, in this video it look like he is performing at some kind of awards ceremony. Where he is performing is not that important though. What is important is what he is performing in.

Vendredi Vidéo

  • We thought it might be fun to kick this holiday weekend off with an entertaining French music video. We'd love to have Vendredi Vidéo every weekend, and we'd like your help.
    • If you've come across and great videos during your web surfing adventures, let us know and we'll pick one every Friday to show off. Send your ideas to byufrenchstudies@gmail.com, and make sure they have something to do with French Studies whether it be language, subject matter, etc.

So here then, is this weeks pick from Professor Olivier. It's a "great" French music video for a song which some of you might have heard: Nuit de Folie. Now just sit back, relax, and enjoy what might have been the most brightly colored costuming of the 1980's! The choreography isn't bad either...

Remember to send your Vendredi Vidéo or Mercredi Musique ideas to byufrenchstudies@gmail.com
