« C’est mon petit doigt qui me l’a dit »

The French House in the Foreign Language Student Residence (FLSR) is a great place to live! Living in the French house is a great opportunity to improve your language skills – it’s almost like a little piece of France in Provo. Residents contract to speak only French in the apartments, so you can refine your language skills with your roommates in real life situations every day! All residents also take a turn cooking in teams once a week and eat dinner together Sunday through Thursday, while visiting in French, of course. There is a “Resident Facilitator (RF)” in every apartment – a native speaker, all of who are super nice and love helping their roommates increase their competency in their beautiful mother language, French! The FLSR program is a wonderful opportunity, unique to BYU. This is my second year living in the French house, and I can happily attest that it has helped me improve my French so much, and has been a very fun place to live. Far more convincing than my opinion is the hard, cold fact that overall, students improve their language skills even more in immersion housing like the FLSR than on study abroad!

We will be following with profiles of French House RFs, activities, participants, and an interview with Mme. Oscarson who oversees the program, so stay tuned!
