Priscilla Monge's Installation
Priscilla Monge was born in 1968 in Costa Rica. Although she is a photographer, she also produces installations such as this one in front of the Rotonde de Ledoux at the Place de la Bataille-de-Stalingrad. Her strength lies in her abilities to use humor, irony, and provocation to question societies notions of establishment and power. Her work invites the spectator to rethink seemingly everyday things, and decide whether or not they should be acceptable.
A lush green football pitch invites the passerby to go in and kick a ball around. But the intentionally hilly surface of the pitch makes it impossible to play a match or apply the rules of the game. This simple and original alteration totally changes the order of things, destabilising the viewer and forcing us to rethink our attitude.
