Interview numéro deux

Name: Linda Goettch

1. Why did you decide to take a French class?

I decided to take a french class because I've always thought the language sounds cool and I want to do humanitarian work after college and I know that a lot of the developing countries in Africa speak French, so I thought it would be useful to get a solid background in the language.

2. What is your past experience with Francophone culture, if any?

I don't really have any experience with it, it's all new to me.

3. Who is your favorite character in French history and why?

I'm going to have to say Maximilien Robespierre only because in middle school we played this really awesome board game all the time in social studies called Guillotine where you try to chop off as many nobles' heads as possible....it was awesome. I guess that's kind of embarrassing that I don't really know any more about French history, but there ya go.

4. Are you enjoying your French course?

Mais oui! No really, it's awesome. I really enjoy the class, it's a great language. Our teacher (Seth Lawrence) is way good at teaching the concepts to us, so we can learn but we still have fun. I have learned a lot more than I ever expected to.

5. What do you plan to do with French in the future?

I want to work with humanitarian organizations in developing countries that are French-speaking, or speak French-derived languages, and I've been thinking about majoring in French along with my current major.

6. Have you ever traveled in a French-speaking country or area?

No.

7. What is your favorite French cultural artifact (ie. film, painting, novel, etc.)?

I adore French art. Edouard Manet is probably my favorite artist of all time.
