The Home Stretch

Thanksgiving has come and gone (I hope everyone had a great break!), and that means that finals and Christmas are right around the corner. If you haven't finished your cultural activities yet, or just need a break from the stress of the next couple of weeks, the French Department has got your back. Here's what going on this week:

2 December, 11 am - Noël en France, Mme Thompson's annual presentation about Christmas traditions in France, is not to be missed. You might be surprised at just how many of our own traditions have French origins. This presentation, full of stories and music, is a perfect way to start off the Christmas season.

2 December, 7 pm - French Choir! In case Mme Thompson's presentation wasn't quite enough to get you in a holiday spirit, the French Choir will be performing Christmas music Thursday night (also not to be missed).

Joyeux Noël at International Cinema - This week International Cinema will be showing a film that is truly international. Joyeux Noël tells the story of a group of French, Scottish, and German soldiers during World War I who declared a truce for Christmas Eve. This promises to be a moving story about a tragic moment in history that is all to often neglected in American history books. The film is 116 minutes long, and for the most part is in French. It's showing four times this week: Tuesday 30 November at 8 pm, Friday 3 December at 5 and 10 pm, and then Saturday 4 December at 1:30 pm.

For a little Christmas fun in the meantime, how about a young Celine Dion singing Le petit renne au nez rouge?
