Quelques interviews

We felt it would be helpful/enjoyable to all of us taking (or thinking of taking) French courses to see what the beginning students experience is. So, I stopped by Seth Lawerence's 101 class and interviewed a few people. Voici les resultats!

Name: Alli Wiser

1. Why did you decide to take a French class?

I took French because I've always loved the language, how it sounded and flowed. I really wanted to learn it, but high school didn't help me very much. But now that I'm in college, and in this setting, I think it's a lot easier to learn a new language. I love it!

2. What is your past experience with Francophone culture, if any?

I went on a tour of six different countries including France. It was so much fun! It's true what you read in the cultural notes of the French textbooks: the French people don't smile if they make eye contact! It's actually amusing to me I think. The food was also delicious!

3. Who is your favorite character in French history and why?

Joan of Arc is a hero to me. I love learning about her and her contribution to her country. She is an inspiration of courage and loyalty, but also of spirituality. She was an amazing woman, which is why she is my favorite character of French history.

4. Are you enjoying your French course?

I am loving learning French. It's very enjoyable! It's fun to realize that you understand things when you're reading something new.

5. What do you plan to do with French in the future?

I plan on becoming as fluent as possible with French so that I can talk with the surprisingly many people that I know, who also speak the language. I also have always wanted to be bilingual.

6. What is your favorite French cultural artifact (i.e. film, painting, novel, etc.)?

I love French art, in almost all its forms, painting, sculpture, architecture, etc. When I was at the Louvre, I couldn't take it all in; it was gorgeous! We also visited Versailles in all its grandeur. France was an experience I will never forget!
