Cock fights, healers, and hidden passages. That get your attention?

If your week has been anything like mine the last thing on your mind is trying to find more to read. But Thanksgiving and Christmas are right around the corner, and you won't always the joy of reading assignments to keep you busy. But never hear, your friendly neighborhood French Studies Blog is here, bringing you the latest in French literature. That's right, here on the blog we'll be posting short recommendation/reviews from our very own professors (and you too!) of good French books to broaden our horizons. Dr. Cropper has led the way:

My favorite French novel of late is Carole Martinez's Le Coeur cousu (Gallimard, 2007, 439 pages). It is the story of a mother and daughter, of their relationship, of supernatural family traditions and of miraculous gifts. It is a story of sewing and of writing, and of the intersection between the two. It is filled with cock fights, healers, and hidden passages. Its chapters read like shorts stories woven together to form the portrait of two powerful women who create their own stories out of the fabric of fate and of revolution. Find out more about the novel by clicking here.

So, chers profs (and students too), have you read anything good lately? Do you have a favorite French book, story, poem, anything? Write a paragraph or two and email it to cshell87@gmail.com with the subject "French Studies Blog" and I'll put it on the blog!

In the meantime, enjoy this little break from midterms.
