Announcements

Salut tout le monde! I hope you all had a good Halloween. The weekend may be over, but the good times definitely aren't. Here's what's going on in the French department this week:

TODAY (sorry for the late notice) at 5:30 in 3198 JFSB there will be an orientation/info meeting presented by NYU for advanced students interested in studying translation at the graduate level. NYU has one of the best translation programs in the country, so this is a great opportunity.

Star Académie is coming up fast, 11 November to be precise, so auditions are this week: Tuesday and Thursday 4:30-6, then Friday 3-5. You can sign up in 3134 JFSB. There are three categories for performances: singing, dancing, or comedy. Anyone who was at Soirée Chanson last week knows that there are lots of great French songs (and swinging dances) that can be performed. Other inspiration can be found (comme d'habitude) at the HLRC website under Online Media.

Coming up next week, in addition to Star Académie, is a symposium on the great author Gabrielle Roy. François Ricard knew the author personally and wrote a massive biography about her. Whether or not you are familiar with her work, this will be an excellent opportunity to learn more about this remarkable woman and about FRench literature outside of France.
