Quelques annonces

I'll be blunt: if you didn't go to the French Club opening activity last week, you missed out big time. Those of us cool enough to go enjoyed fresh popcorn, trivia contests rewarded with awesome t-shirts, and last but never least we got to see Amélie. If you didn't go (I can't think of a single good excuse, but hey, I'm not here to judge), there are still some great French Club activities coming up this semester. In October there will be a 1960s French singalong and costume contest. And in November (drumroll please...) will be Star Academy!

There is a lot going on this week for anyone interested in French Studies. Wednesday, 6 October, the Kennedy Center is hosting an Information Soirée for anyone interested in French internships. More information can be found on the flier:

International Cinema is showing a French film this week. Blame it on Fidel! (La faute à Fidel), directed by Julie Gavras, takes place in Paris during the 1970s. 9-year-old Anna's comfortable bourgeois life is turned upside down when her parents become active communists. For more info on the movie and to see a trailer visit the IMDB page here. For the International Cinema schedule, click here.

But wait, there's more! This week Philip Nord, Rosengarten Professor of Modern and Contemporary History at Princeton, is giving some great lectures here at the Y. The first, entitled Paris in the Impressionist Era, is Thursday 7 October at 5 pm in JFSB B002. He will speak on France's New Deal on Friday 8 October at 2 pm in JFSB B092.
